How To Create A Playroom That Will Grow With Your Children

Creating a playroom that will grow with your children is not difficult

. Your child's first playroom will be when they are toddlers. Their space will need to be colorful, inviting, safe and have lots of storage space for their toys.

As your child outgrows the toddler years, the playroom will also have to outgrow the toddler decors. The new look will depend on your child's needs and growing interest in different things.

Then, moving into the preteen years the room will again need a major overhaul to match your child's growing needs and interests. The last change will be for your teens and should at this point double for the adults. Now the playroom becomes an entertainment room. As your child grows so do their interests and their toys get bigger and more expensive. Your playroom needs to change with them.

A room makeover to keep up with the changing phases is easy to do. Appropriate decorations, furnishings, artworks and colors have a big impact on the overall look of the room. How To Create A Playroom That Will Grow With Your Children

There is one very clever way to unify the room decor and add comfort and interest, and that is by using area rugs. When your child is a toddler, the area rug will offer comfort and safety and a place for them to lay on the floor to play. There are many wonderful choices for this wonderful, fun age.

As the child moves into the elementary school age, their interests have changed and they have favorite characters, or sports activities or perhaps dance or horse back riding. There are area rugs that have whimsical design and colors that will blend easily with their many interests.

The preteen and teenager stages require a "more sophisticated" rug. Funky and trendy are the keywords. Your child will be happy to choose his/her own design, color, shape and pattern of the area rug for the room. The selections are huge, so finding one that's right for your kid is not a problem.

Using accent rugs and runner rugs will help add interest to your room but they need to be placed to follow the lines of the walls. Placing the rugs at different angles will give the feeling of confusion.

Place a runner and an accent rug in an area that follows the lines of the wall to create a balanced look. If you have two or more rugs, make sure that they are of the same tone to create a look of harmony in the room. Entering this living space will instantly give an impression of relaxation.

The pattern of the area rug should be appropriate with the size of the playroom. Big patterns are for a bigger room while smaller patterns are similarly for a smaller space. Smaller patterns can also be as appealing as rugs with more obvious lines. Area rugs come in a variety of colors and shapes that you can opt for more fun shades and figures if you can't go bold with the patterns.

The rug size too will depend on the room size. Make sure to have a fitting rug with the perfect size and not a "this-will" do look. Remember, a mismatched size will make the rug look out of place. It can distort the look of the room instead of enhancing it.

Your playroom will grow with your child as you make these simple changes over the years.
