Honda Put On A Good Show At 2012 Geneva Motor Show
Among the exciting new prototypes and concepts shown at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show was Hondas 1.6 litre diesel engine
. The first of their new Earth Dreams Technology series, the 1.6 litre is slated to be launched in the new Civic late this year. Honda expects the engine to lead in fuel economy within three years. Light and environmentally friendly, the 1596cc engine puts out less than 100g/km CO2 while delivering 88kw (120PS)/4000rpm power and 300Nm/2000rpm of torque.
Showcased alongside the 1.6 litre diesel were the Honda NSX Concept, the European CR-V Prototype, two Jazz models and the EV-STER electric sports car. Featuring a powerful mid-mounted V6 engine and Hondas Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling All Wheel Drive) system, the NSX Concept gives a preview of Hondas goals for their next supercar. It should be available sometime in the next three years.
Representing Hondas SUV market, the new European CR-V shows more aggressive styling with bolder lines, making it look more like a serious SUV and less like something youd drive to do the school run. The updated body style has the added advantage of being more aerodynamic. The prototypes attractive alloy wheels are sure to go over well in the UK. If the alloy wheels dont come standard when the model goes on sale late this year, no worries. Remember, there are plenty of custom alloy wheels for sale.
For the hatchback crowd, Honda unveiled the Jazz Si, complete with sport suspension, a much more muscular body style, low-profile tires and 16 inch alloy wheels. The Jazz 1.2 with Idle Stop, Hondas other new Jazz model, features far less radical changes to its appearance. Rather, the appeal of the 1.2 with Idle Stop lies in its 3g/km drop in CO2 emissions over the current Jazz 1.2. This iteration should go on sale next spring.
The EV-STER is exciting news for sports car fans who also care about the environment. Featuring a lithium-ion motor, the EV-STER serves as additional proof of Hondas commitment to technological innovation and driver enjoyment. The rear-wheeled roadster is reported to reach 60 km/h in 5 seconds flat, making it an electric car that should be a lot of fun to drive. No release date has yet been announced, but the EV-STER may become available later this year. If the production version looks anything like the concept car, itll be one beautiful car, best completed with custom alloy wheels.
