Being A Fire Fighter Has Never Been An Easy Job

Fire safety awareness is becoming one of the most important public issues that is being addressed by fire departments all over

. With increase in the incidents of fire accidents at homes being reported, it has now come to light that people do not have fire fighting equipments or alarm systems installed at home. Even if they have installed the systems, residents lack the required knowledge and training to use the system and maintain them. Therefore the fire departments have work cut out for them to educate, train and assist all residents to make their home safe from fire hazards.

Fire fighters not only fight and carry out rescue operations in case of fire, they attend to very many situations every day including those that can expose them to grave dangers.

You will find fire fighters on the scene where ever there is a emergency or life threatening situation like accidents, tornado, flooding or even when cats climb up the trees and do not know how to come down. They are all the time expected to be ready with their vehicles and equipments and be able to hit the road within a few minutes on getting a call for help.

Firefighters have to watch out for signs of stress. Not only emotional and psychological stress, but also the body condition can vary due to the insulated clothing that they wear which traps the heat inside. Heat stress results when they wear these clothes and get into a fire.Being A Fire Fighter Has Never Been An Easy Job

Often while fighting fires, the buildings collapse and sometimes fire fighters can get trapped inside. Under such circumstances it becomes important for them to have radio communication with the rest of the team to be able to seek help and escape.

People who work in fire department should have a personality that is made of steel. They should be mentally, physically and emotionally strong and be able to withstand challenges and face danger all the time. It calls for multi tasking abilities too.

Fire fighters are only one part of the entire fire service department. There are many more roles and jobs including operations control, vehicle maintenance, community welfare, training and education, civil resilience, procurement, finance, HR and administration etc.

Fire fighters have a mixed bag when it comes to their career. On one side they face grave dangers almost every day and fight with fire risking their lives. On the other hand they save lives every day and give the victims new life and hope.
