Aron Ralston is a mechanical engineer, and a daring mountaineer. A few years ago he got caught in the Blue John Canyon near Canyonlands National Park, in Southeast Utah. After struggling for five days to get his hand free from being pinched in a boulder, he cut through his hand under the elbow to free himself.

Aron Ralston has faced severe criticism for his crazy mountaineering antics, and he is well known for them. When people do daring things and get themselves into trouble it is called foolishness, but at the same time when they dare and get through something equally foolish they are called heroes. And so Aron does not have any regrets for having decided to go for a hike without informing anyone that day where exactly he was going and whom to call. After cutting through his arm, Aron rappelled down, and walked five miles till he found some help.

Aron has undergone surgery and is not in the intensive care unit at the hospital anymore. All his friends are certain that Aron would like to get back out in the wild, the first chance he gets, and do things the way he always has.
