Your Eligibility Criteria For Dental Implants (implant Dentistry)

Dental implant is the cosmetic dentistry procedure where a customized artificial

tooth is implanted with titanium screw in the gum cavity of a missing tooth. Dental implants are surgical procedures that require general anesthesia to the patient. Since they are serious surgical procedures so there are some eligibility criteria to be able to have a dental implant.

The eligibility criteria parameters even extend to the type of dental implant you can have. The different factors associated with being the ideal candidate to dental implant are described here.

To be eligible for a dental implant of any kind, a person must have a sound overall health condition. In particular, if there are any serious medical histories of heart ailment, high blood pressure, kidney ailment or any such problems then dental implantation decision must be a cautious one. You have to consult and seek permission from your general physician first.

In addition, if there are complaints like bruxism or any other dental problem like gum infection, then too dental implant is not an option. It is again important to remember to be prepared to have a long healing time after the dental implant procedure. This is because the dental implant process depends upon osteointegration, which is fusing of the bone cells (osteoblasts) with the titanium alloy screw. Since dental implants are planned to be permanent solution to the missing tooth problem, so a patient has to give the initial cost of healing.

If you are eligible for dental implant, then the dentist will tell you know what type of dental implant you are eligible to. The type of dental implant procedure depends solely upon the jaw bone available and the condition of the jaw bone. Dental implants are typically of two types. The types are endosteal dental implant and a subperiosteal dental implant.

To be eligible for endosteal implant you have to have enough jaw bone space available to accommodate the titanium screw. When the jaw bone has atrophied due to old age, or there is less space due to jaw structure and remaining teeth alignment then the periosteal implant eligibility criteria is met. A jaw bone grafting might be necessary if there is not enough jaw bone space available.
