You Want To Lose Weight But Are You Doing What You Need To Be Doing To Make It Happen?

If we truly wish to become slim and stay that way the first thing that needs to be

changed is the approach from old fashioned 'dieting' and ineffective exercising to one of improving the metabolism (our metabolic engine). We need it to become more like a finely tuned machine, one that is naturally inclined to eliminate excess weight which is the excess body fat stored on your tummy, hips and thighs.

People who are strong and fit burn more calories every single minute of the day and even at night when they are asleep. They may be burning an extra hundred or so more calories each day which may not sound like much but it is actually the difference between becoming overweight or remaining lean and slim.

To take a sluggish metabolic engine to a higher performance one requires a tune up for the muscular system. This means a proper strength training exercise program that focus's on working the muscles through their ranges of movement under a load. This will challenge the muscles directly and they will become stronger and fitter. When this is achieved they will burn a greater amount of fuel (calories) which will whittle into that stored fat and use it up for energy.

Most people though when they decide they want to lose weight embark on long slow 'cardio' type sessions of repetitive activities like walking or cycling and focus on simply burning calories during the session. But to lose weight you need to do more than this. You need to change your body at cellular level so the total, overall, hourly calorie burn is increased whether you are exercising or simply parked on the couch watching television.

The place where the food you eat once turned into fuel is in your muscle cells so this is why they have to be in tip top condition to gobble up all the food you eat. Unburned calories will simply be piled up in storage sites on your body spoiling your looks and endangering your health.

Recreational 'cardio' type activity will not tone your muscles enough to boost your metabolism to help you lose weight as they do not focus on strengthening the muscular system - your fat burning machinery.

It can take up to 12 months with a proper strength training program to make these changes to your metabolism and boost it up. You have to 1) be exercising at the correct level of intensity (degree of effort), 2) be a little bit patient before it kicks in and burns up the excess fat stores and 3) your nutrition plan needs to support your exercise program so you can put the necessary effort into it.

These three things are simple and do-able and when you have them in place it will only be a matter of time till you transform an overweight, weak, flabby body into a strong, lean, firm, shapely, healthy one. That is what you truly want isn't it?
