Injections of botulinum toxin type A should be avoided during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless it is deemed necessary by your physician. The effects are unknown in unborn children. It is also not known if the toxin is passed on through breastfeeding.
You should also be aware that the toxin could disseminate to other areas in the body. Thus resulting in serious or life-threatening adverse reactions. These adverse reactions can appear weeks after the initial injection. If at any time you have symptoms of an allergic reaction such as: hives, trouble breathing, or swelling of your face, lips, or tongue, you should seek emergency treatment immediately.
Your pharmacist or doctor can provide you with a complete list of side effects. You should report any reaction to your physician. Report any adverse effects promptly, do not wait until it gets worse.
Only let a trained medical professional administer the injections. There are specific guidelines for the administration of botox. Also, refrain from treatment if you have any inflammation, infection, or muscle weakness in the area to be injected.
