Window Manufacturers and the Standards of the Trade

We've taken some time, rested ourselves, some of us have even had a spring break (for all those students out there), and now we're back here on the pages of the Croft LLC blog seeking out the richest knowledge we can get our hands on when it comes to fenestration and the wide world of all things pertaining to the window manufacturing industry. Last week we took a look at the AAMA (American Architectural Manufacturers Association) on our way through the glossary of window terms. This organization is basically the standard (albeit the voluntary standard) for window manufacturing standards. It is home to a lot more standards than just window manufacturing, but a primary part of its function does pertain to windows, and that is what we are all about here on this blog. These voluntary standards serve as a guidepost to aid consumers in their quest for quality vinyl windows and aluminum windows. It also strengthens the connection between the window manufacturer and their customers. So, with our little recap out of the way, lets get serious with some aluminum window, vinyl window, and storm door terminology.

There comes a time in every homebuyers life when they must think about windows. Even if it is just for a second, it is going to happen. The blog post preceding this one, and those to come in the future as well will help to serve as a kind of guide to help buyers, whether they be wholesale buyers, or personal home owners, with the decisions and considerations that will arise whenever aluminum windows or storm windows need to be purchased for a home or installed in a building. We're running out of time to get into it this week, so next week we are going to jump right in and talk about Absorptance. I know, it looks like a misspelling, but it isn't. Check back next time for the scoop.

The astragal is attached to the non-moving or fixed door and is basically in place to prevent drafts. Sometimes (and I mean very rarely) the astragal is called a hucklebone. Just a little useless piece of trivia to put in your pocket for the rare occasion that you find yourself being asked about obscure and advanced window manufacturer and door maker terminology.
