Why Valentine Movies Make Good Business

Every year, Hollywood does not fail to produce Valentine-themed movies. Movie studios always make it a point to bank on special seasons like Christmas, Halloween and Valentines Day is no different. How many of us can say that we dont like romantic films or that we dont have any favorite romantic film at all? This is the reason why film studios are willing to spend millions of dollars producing romantic films and even casting A-list celebrities who demand multi-million talent fees. The market for such genre is huge and definitely any business man would capitalize on this. However, it is very tricky producing a hit romantic film. Unlike big-budgeted blockbuster films which rely heavily on state-of-art CGI and action-packed sequences which generally attract a lot of movie-goers, romantic films are almost always dependent highly on two things. First, the chemistry of the lead actors and second the story itself. Proper marketing and perfect release timing help too. Now another way to attract movie-goers is to cast a bunch A-list celebrities. And it is given that these kinds of celebrities have huge following therefore attracting fans wont be much of a problem. However, fans can be picky and critical too. So the story has to be solid and appealing as well, and should I say appropriately modern. So this year an aptly appropriate film is being released for the season of love and romance. Valentines Day, considered as the largest all-star cast ensemble ever in cinema history, is set to be released on February 12, 2010 in the U.S. The cast includes megasuperstar Julia Roberts along with fellow A-list celebrities such as Patrick Dempsey, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Biel, Ashton Kutcher, Bradley Cooper, Queen Latifah and so many more. The film centers on the intertwined love stories of regular people on the course of one Valentines Day. This will not be the first love-themed film that has an all-star cast. Just last year, Hes Just Not That Into You was released which was well received by the movie-goers and became a runaway hit that grossed more than $172 million domestically. It featured superstars like Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, Scarlett Johansson and a lot more. In 2003, another romantic comedy film made it huge in the box office with a predominantly all-star British cast. Love Actually was starred by Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley, Colin Firth which earned more than $246 million. Of course there are more hit tandem-driven romantic films than the all-star ensemble ones out there. But I think the latter caters to a market that wants to see a variety of stories in one film and not only focused on one love team with one storyline all throughout. As the old adage goes, you cant entertain everybody. There will always be people who will have negative opinions about a film no matter how successful it is. But to each his own liking for movies and it is just only a matter of targeting the right market. So go ahead and see a romantic film right now and try to be immersed in the potion of love and while youre at it, send a Valentines Day card to your loved one.About the Author:
