, which is why a lot couples decide to go this route. Any couple that is getting a divorce should at least consider going to mediation before settling in court. A mediator is completely objective and has the best interest of both sides at heart. They act as a buffer, but are also are able to offer suggestions based on their knowledge and experience in these situations. This is invaluable, as it gives the divorce parties a different perspective on the issues. With mediation, there is a good chance that both sides can avoid battling in court.

What's nice about mediation is that it allows couples to work things out in a casual environment. No one else is present except for a mediator, which also adds an element of privacy. When in court, you start involving a number of other outside parties such as judges and lawyers. All the major issues now start to be witnessed by others, and this can big difficult on everyone involved. The legal procedures are complex and prolonged, whereas mediation is a much more efficient process.

While there are certain situations where divorce mediation isn't feasible, it is an option for most couples. For instance, if there has been physical abuse, then mediation isn't a possibility. But as long as both sides are at least somewhat amicable and are willing to work through their issues, then mediation can be a success. When couples don't get along, it tends to be black and white. One side feels one way, and the other side feels differently. A mediator is there to bring some gray area so both parties can gravitate more towards the middle.

This is how mediation works. Both sides have give somewhat in order to reach an agreement. This is a far healthier process than the legal system, where a judge makes the decisions for them. It also allows couples to work things out a bit, and end on good terms. This is particularly beneficial when children are involved.

Mediators typically are able to bring a variety of different experiences and perspectives to the table. They can educate couples as well about the legal process and give really sound advice that is easily understood.

Mediation is ultimately a vehicle for couples working their issues out on their own. They control the outcome, and therefore can reach a conclusion that is truly best for everyone involved. Not to mention that it's far less expensive and time consuming.
