The Suzuki Alto may be one of the smallest cars on the road
, but they are great value for money. Their small size makes them very popular with older or less confident drivers, but their low cost makes them a good car for someone who has just passed their test. Being small they are easy to use in town and to park. The only real disadvantage to their size is the fact that there is not a lot of boot space. However, the SZ4 has split rear seats meaning that if you occasionally need more boot space you can create some.The Alto cannot be described as fast, but is surprisingly nippy in traffic. It has a 1.0 litre engine with 67bhp, but it only does 0-62mph in 14 seconds. Unfortunately, like most cars with 1.0 litre engines the Alto suffers from a high level of engine noise.
The Alto is an urban delight, it handles really well in town and its tight turning circle is a real advantage. On faster or uneven roads, it does not do so well, but is tolerable. If you spend all day on bumpy motorways then you might find the Alto is not for you.
The Alto is not only cheap to buy; it is also cheap to run. It needs servicing ever 9,000 miles and the cost of each service is extremely low. Although it does not qualify for free road tax, it is still one of the cheapest cars to tax. The SZ4 is in group 2 and the SZ2 & SZ3 are both in group 1.
The level of equipment you get is good for all models, and it is pleasing to see that all models have twin front and side air-bags. The SZ4 is the model to look for, it costs a little more but you get extra for the money. Curtain air-bags, ESP traction control, alloy wheels, split and fold rear bench seats and air conditioning are all included on the SZ4.
