Products Used-
One major reason as to why your dental care in Thailand is less expensive is the type of products used. While in America or the UK, the dentist might use a special brand name product where they get a "kick back" from the manufacture. In Thailand they will use a more generic product where you aren't paying a one thousand percent mark up for a brand name that you've never heard of. Your dentist loves their brand name products, the incentives pay for their next vacation.
Cost of Living-
The cost of living in Thailand is a lot less than it would be in America or the UK. It is because of this, a dentist charging $400 for a procedure which only costs $50 dollars would be unheard of. If a dentist was doing this, they would be run out of business in Thailand. The local public would never use their services and soon the company would be out of business.
Lower Overhead-
The cost of running a business is significantly less in Thailand than it would be in any western country. Instead of paying your nurses $4,000 a month, a nurse in Thailand is paid around $600 a month.
The cost of rent, utilities, attorneys, etc... are far less than it would be in America or the UK.
Dentist Pay-
Being a dentist in Thailand is still considered an educated professional. Meaning, to become a dentist you have to go through extensive schooling for your degree. This school can be subsidized by the government in return of a contract where they must work in their profession for a certain amount of time, or simply college is paid for by the student.
Where in America a standard dentist might be making anywhere from $5,000 - $15,000 a month, a dentist in Thailand makes around a couple thousand dollars a month.
Some real examples of the cost difference between Thailand and American in dental care:
- Filling with Composite. In American you will be charged around $275 for a quality white filling composite. In Thailand your average price will be $28.
- Root Canal. A standard root canal will cost $1,000 in America. In Thailand it costs $300
- Crown. The cost in America will be $1,400 - $2,000. In Thailand the cost is $400 - $500.
- Complete Denture Upper and Lower. You'll be charged a solid $2,400 in America for this. In Thailand you will be looking at $800 - $1,500.
- Cleaning and Polishing. You'll be looking at $250 verse the $40 charged in Thailand.
Above are just some simple examples of the savings. If you are from Australia, you'll find the cost can be double the American prices in some cases like denture work.
