Why and How you MUST promote your Home Based Business
Alright, I have a home based business that only my limited friend circle, family and business associates know about. The only sale that I have made in the last 3 months is one.
Am I missing something here?
Yes, I am.
I am missing out on opportunity, on business, on new clients, on a new marketplace, lastly, on money!
The worst part is that I am not alone. Most people who start a home based business do not promote it.
Why? The reasons are many. They feel its too costly, too tedious, time consuming and even nave.
But is it really?
The answer is no.
If you are serious about making money from home, then you MUST, I repeat, MUST promote your home based business. And contrary to what a lot of people think, its not tedious, costly or time consuming.
I will divide the promotions into two parts, the online world and the offline one.
Let me elaborate.
The Online World
Most home based business opportunities encourage you to have an online presence and tap into the ever so lucrative World Wide Web marketplace.
In the rare case that it doesnt, then get a website designed.
A website will be your window to the world. The only source that people use to connect to you. So, it must be professional and aesthetic.
Now for the promotion part. Internet marketing is dominated by a term called SEO or Search Engine Optimization. Your website needs to be optimized for search engines so that it ranks well in natural search listings for keyword phrases that people use to search for businesses like yours.
SEO is a slow process but the return on investments is awesome. There are other methods like PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising, Social Media (Facebook, Twitter etc) and Email marketing which can also be incorporated into your promotional campaign.
Do yourself a favor and hire a professional.
The Offline World
The tried and tested methods like printed flyers, business cards, newspaper classifieds, articles, t-shirts, stickers, referrals and word of mouth publicity still works in the offline world.
Yes, rather than reinventing the wheel, just tweak it.
Printing high quality flyers costs only a fraction of what it used to earlier. So do T-Shirts.
Use a good tagline and design an attractive logo.
