Some new fishermen may think that have caught a white perch, when instead if they looked closer or were more experienced they would know that what they have caught is a white bass. White Bass look very similar to White Perch, except the White Bass grow larger, and the bass have numerous stripes that run the length of their bodies, where the perch tend to have one major stripe, also the bass have a more pointed head.

White Bass are not regarded as the top bass of many fishermen, because they tend to have a somewhat greasy texture to their flesh, but their taste is actually quite good. Still they are a great fish for catch and release, even if not the best for eating, because they are great fighters, and for their size they can put up quite a battle when reeling in. Depending upon where you live and the water temperature, they spawn in either late spring or the early summer months.

White Bass thrive in numerous deep ponds, lakes, reservoirs, streams and rivers. They prefer deep water that is clean, and actually free of debris, in fact they tend to shy away from fallen trees, logs, brush and weedy areas, and will usually hang around the deep holes and channels of the bodies of water that they occupy.

White Bass like to be in groups, or schools so when you hook one, you may have much success casting or rowing towards the same area for awhile. Some great live bait choices for catching White Bass, are; worms, small shad and minnows.

When using lures keep in mind that White Bass tend to feed by sight, so use spinners, jig's, plugs, and other bass lures that are bright and flashy, as to attract the fishes attention. One great tip to remember, is White Bass are very active and feed the most around sunrise and sunset, so use this to your advantage when you are going fishing for them.
