When To Vacation In Madrid

When To Vacation In Madrid

What is the best time to enjoy the vibrant nightlife of a world-class city

? What is the best time to wander around its fascinating streets, shopping, eating, and sampling the life that it has to offer? What is the best time to feast on the delicacies that Madrid has to offer for your palette, your senses, and your mind? Madrid is a beautiful city no matter what time of year you visit. You will always find the wonderful Museo Arqueolgico Nacional and the Museo del Prado or the eclectic, frenetic El Rastro Marketplace. You will always find Madrid worth visiting.

Spring and fall are generally regarded as the most pleasant times to visit Madrid, mainly due to the advantageous weather. These seasons are mild, and crowds are at a manageable level. Summers can be quite hot, and winters can bring cold temperatures, so those wishing to escape to a warm clime will find May and October the best months to visit. A fall treat is the annual Autumn Festival in October and November. Musicians from all over Europe and South America gather and charm residents and visitors alike with chamber music, symphonies, orchestral works, and Arabic and Sephardic music from the Middle Ages.

But weather doesnt tell the whole story. Though becoming hotter, May is one of the best months to be in Madrid. The cultural offerings and excitement of the city are palpable and it is an exciting atmosphere to soak in for the visitor. The Fiesta de San Isidro, one of the citys major festivals, is held over a four-week period beginning in May. In honor of their patron saint, Madrid enjoys craft fairs, parades, musical acts, feasts, and legendary bullfights. It is an experience not to be missed and one that will be painted vividly in the mind for years to come.

August brings a slow-down in the tourist trade, and many restaurants, hotels, and shops close for the month. Though more shops are staying open, it tends to be quiet and tranquil in Madrid. One lively note in the sleepy month of August is the Festival of the Virgen de la Paloma. On the fifteenth of the month, festivities break out in the Latin quarter as the city pays homage to the Virgin of La Paloma.

If planning a trip to Madrid, be assured that anytime you go, you will find culture, cuisine, and excursions that are second to none. What do you want to get out of Madrid?
