When Bollywood Was Leaked Online
Piracy has for long has been the root cause for the down-market of Bollywood movies
. Though, some might say that piracy has also helped the filmmakers in an indirect manner but on an ethical perspective it has always been perceived as a loophole or rather an economic problem which cannot be resolved.If we look back at the recent past, Director Sudhir Mishra already delayed film Tera Kya Hoga Johnny was all over the internet even before it got released. Now that is something which has bothered the entire film fraternity. The movie was uploaded on the worlds most popular video sharing website YouTube.
Director Sudhir Mishra was highly exasperated with this satanic act but he aint the only filmmaker who has faced this catch 22. Earlier, Bollywood films that hit the web world before its due release were Anurag Kashyap's 'Paanch', Ashutosh Gowariker's 'Whats Your Raashee' and even Amitabh Bachchan drama 'Paa' was also on YouTube a day before its release. All these movies were there on the web world even before its due release date. Out of these some movies were uploaded anonymously for free streaming. You just have to wait for the buffering and once the buffering is over you are able to watch the whole movie through online streaming. The question which arises is can this be stopped? Or is there any practical remedy to this?
Frankly speaking, this is one of the curses of the latest technology. Every boon comes with a curse and for something like the internet; technology has always played the role of a double edged sword.
Tera kya hoga Johnny' focuses on the central character Johnny played by Sikander Agarwal who is a tea boy on the boulevards of Mumbai woolgathering of a better life in Dubai. His hopes of making it in life are pinned on the fortunes of three people he looks up to Parvez, Preeti and Vishal. Neil Niti Mukesh plays the character of Parvez, a Muslim guy from Ahmedabad who wants to gain riches real quick so that he can complete his responsibilities and reclaim his love (Shahana Goswami), who is now married to a corrupt cop, (Kay Kay Menon). Preeti (Soha Ali Khan) is a small time model and Vishal (Karan Nath) is her drug addict boy friend. According to insiders filmmakers Anurag Kashyap and Aditya Bhattacharya make cameos in the film.
This is not only a dilemma faced by the Bollywood film fraternity; Even in Hollywood this kind of piracy is prevalent. Wolverine movie in Hollywood was getting streamed online much before its release date.
Tera kya hoga Johnny' had already been screened if not streamed at different festival circuits across the world. The movie was kept at halt for almost 2 years looking out for a release date. The moral of the story is whatever the cause is, Piracy was a crime and it still is and will always be. We all should do our bit and fight this phenomenon. Lets not misuse technology and be a criminal. Lets hope Sudhir Msihras Tera Kya Hoga Johnny has a long run at Box office despite the trials and tribulations the movie took.
