What's The Cause Of Bedwetting In Children?

What's The Cause Of Bedwetting In Children?

Bedwetting can be frustrating for parents. Yet, it is very common for young children. Parents need to expect this to occur, and even during the transition from diapers to underwear, parents need patience and to realize that it is a process of growth for their child. While a wet bed isn't fun to change in the middle of the night, the importance of the parents' understanding about why this occurs is very important.

Not all children grow at the same rate, and bedwetting can be due to the child having a small bladder. It can help to explain to a young child that until they are a little older, it is better to prevent a wet bed by wearing diapers. A parent's role is to support their child during this process and help them to understand that they aren't different, but rather that with physical development they will no longer have to wear diapers or have wet beds.

Slow physical development may also be why bedwetting occurs. The nerves and muscles that are used to hold one's bladder are sometimes simply not strong enough to stop bedwetting at night. The will may be there, and you may be able to help your child understand what they need to do in order to prevent urination while asleep, but all of that will not stop the problem if their body is not developed enough.

Bedwetting does not have to be linked to physical problems, either. It may be a case of the child having a significant amount of mental anxiety or stress about a problem they are facing in their life. A sleeping child may not be completely at rest if their subconscious is in turmoil. This kind of situation can lead to urination while sleeping, further adding to a child's mental burdens.

With a bedwetting child, it is the parents' job to understand why it continues to happen and to accept that they have no control over it. A parent needs to be able to explain in a very simple manner to the child that it is normal for them due to either their bladder size, need for more physical growth, or sleep patterns. The best bedwetting advice will tell you that the key to success is understanding and patience. If there is stress or anxiety around the child, this needs to be addressed by the parent. A parent's role in this is to learn as much as they can and also remain calm and non-judgmental if an accident does occur.
