Are you stuck with a great product but your ecommerce store hasn't brought any significant sales

The problem with a lot of ecommerce websites is that the owner only looks at the product and expects to succeed because it is great. Now, the internet is much too competitive for that to be the case. First, you have to make sure your business is really ready to go online. Some good things to have are a support team and an 800 number that your website visitors can call to make sure the website is legitimate. Call me crazy but I would rather shop at an online store if I can call the company and ask them about their products instead of a website with no contact information at all. You have to be sure that your website's design (more on that in a second) supports a great spot to have your phone number so every visitor will be able to locate it no problem. Usually, one of the upper corners is a great place to put your support number. Also, if you can manage to get a live chat support system for those that don't want to call but still want assurance, that would be great!

The 2nd step is to make sure that your site design is perfect. You want to make sure that everything is user friendly and that no visitor will get confused when looking for a product. Have a prominent search function on every page and make sure your product categories stand out. On the front page, feature some of your featured items, which may be on sale or newly in stock. Take this analogy for example: would you rather shop at a yard sale or at a grocery store? Chances are, you would rather go to the grocery store. Grocery stores have signs everywhere directing you to where your desired product is located. A yard sale may be somewhat organized but it is usually a mess compared to a grocery store.

Last but not least, you will market your ecommerce site if you expect to make it anywhere. Back a few years it was easy to start a site and get traffic to it by the way of search engines because the competition wasn't really there yet. Now, it is a lot different and it is almost impossible to find a niche store that doesn't have some competition. If you expect to make significant sales with your ecommerce site, you will have to market right. While there are many forms of internet marketing, SEO and SMM are the ones that I stick to. Search engine optimization is a form of marketing to make your site appear in search engines for relevant keywords. SMM, or social media marketing, is utilizing sites like Facebook and Twitter to bring potential customers to your site from your company's profile. You can venture down the road of marketing by yourself or hiring someone to do the marketing for you. Marketing can be very time consuming so unless you have a lot of free time on your hands, I would recommend hiring somebody to do so.

Of course there are many other things that you can do for your ecommerce site to boost sales. But, the three things listed in this piece are vital for your online success. If you are missing one, you are missing a lot. You can outsource all of this and only worry about running your business if you want or you can do it all on your own.
