What Makes Good Children's Beds

If you think back to when you were a child, you will remember that you spent an awful lot of time in your bed, or in your bedroom. Remember when bedtime was seven o clock and you didn't get to come out of your bedroom until seven in the morning? You used to spend maybe twelve hours in the vicinity of your bed. And, let's face it, that bed was boring. Children's beds were always functional items, sturdy and unimpressive, designed to take a hammering from being bounced on and used as a fort.

It's funny, when you think about it. The child's bed was built to take a pounding in the course of all that playing, that childish fantasising that we all do when we are young. You know: the bed is a castle, or a space ship, or a submarine. It's a boat floating down the river Nile, and you are a brave explorer set out to recapture the Lost Jewels of the Crown.

The world, of course, has moved on a bit now. People seem to pay more attention to their furniture. And nowhere is that more evident than in the new wave of children's beds now making an appearance in homes all over the United Kingdom. What Makes Good Children's Beds

What's the difference then? Beauty, good looks, quality materials and an attention to the detail of what it is actually like to be a child, which makes sure that all those games have something to really base themselves on.

If your child likes to pretend that his or her bed is a space ship or a boat, the logic goes: why not make sure that his or her bed actually is a boat or a space ship? Why not make a bed that looks great, that sits well in the room and that actively plays up to the imagination of the child who is sleeping and playing on it?

Modern children's beds have made, finally, the intuitive leap that we were all waiting for when we were kids. If a child is going to spend so much time in and around his or her bed, this leap says, then, let's make his or her bed an interesting place to be a fun place to be, where those games and those stories can come alive.

Moreover, there's a benefit to this attention to detail that even the makers of these beds may have overlooked. Modern children's beds, when they are made to look good and to be interesting and fun, are places that children want to be in, or to be near - which means that getting kids to bed or at least into the bedroom, is a lot easier than it used to be.

You can surely remember the scene when you used to argue with your parents for hours over you bed time and finally had to force yourself into the boring bed of yours. Well, all they needed to do was ditch the boring old bunk bed and get hold of something that would make your bed time interesting and exciting. Interesting children's beds are more than just beautiful additions to a bedroom they're a useful weapon in the nightly Battle of Bedtime.
