What Is The Future Of American Idol?

What Is The Future Of American Idol?

There is no doubt that American Idol is one of the biggest shows on television if not the biggest but how will it fare in its 10th season

? First it will have to get over the loss of British judge, Simon Cowell and then it will need to take on things such as viewer boredom and fatigue. In season 9, the show showed signs of being mortal and rating dropped so what is in store for it?

The show begins with auditions and there the judges play much more of a factor. Such being the case it is critical that whomever they choose to replace Simon is good. There is going to be an inordinate amount of pressure on this new person but they just have to be themselves. The worst thing they can do is to simply try and copy Simon and be a Simon clone. This won't achieve anything.

Now with two of the three original judges gone, Randy becomes the most senior judge. But he doesn't have the personality to take over. So in her third year, Kara will become the main judge which feels a bit funny. It is important that the judges allow quality singers to go through to Hollywood as this is what shapes the season. The final 24 has a big say in how good the season is.

Over the years there has been a lot of criticism about the Hollywood process. They keep changing and tinkering with it which isn't good. Whether it is a game of bingo or a restaurant menu what people want is consistency. You are going to have many unhappy bingo players if the rules were continually changed. People have been upset that the judges have let through people to the final 24 who weren't that good while cut some really promising and talented singers. There is no good use in allowing singers through who won't be performers. A prime example of this was Didi Benami who simply floundered when it came to singing in front of an audience.

Also the format of the semi-finals is continually changed. This year it was the top 24 were whittled down to 12 over the course of three weeks. Each week two guys and two girls left. This is a bad system as it allows bad singer to progress. Rather the other method they have used in the past is more effective for producing a talented final 12.

Here instead of a final 24 they have a final 36. Each week 12 singers take the stage and just the best guy, best girl and next best go through. After three weeks they have nine singers. Then the judges choose another nine who will have another chance and from that another three will be chosen. This method ensures only the best go through which is how it should be. You shouldn't advance just because someone was poorer than you. It should be on your merits which is how it is also going to be for the show.
