Weight Loss After Childbirth 'should Be Gradual'

Weight Loss After Childbirth 'should Be Gradual'

Many women look to weight loss treatments after giving birth to help them those their baby bulges.

However, an expert has advised such people to take their body care regimes slowly at first, as rushing the process can have a detrimental impact.

According to Chloe Lorback from personal training studio Fit to Deliver, celebrities that shed all their excess pounds in a matter of weeks after having their children are not good role models.

She pointed out that stars have teams of people to help them achieve this and she noted that other women can find seeing such results demoralising.

The expert stated: "Pictures of celebs walking the catwalk six weeks after giving birth, or looking glamorous at events can only add to the frustration that you may feel when your own body still feels a bit soft and squishy after you've had your baby."

She added: "We know it is not realistic or safe to lose weight too quickly after having your baby. Dieting is not recommended as you will need extra calories to make nutritious breast milk."

A more "realistic approach" is to exercise and to gradually increase the intensity and duration of exertion, she claimed.

Despite the body care and weight loss treatments available to new mums, the process of losing weight after starting a family is slow, Ms Lorback suggested.

Meanwhile, Sports Medicine Australia spokeswoman Dr Anita Green advised women to wait until around six weeks after having their babies before they ramp up their efforts to get in shape.

She also noted that females who have had Caesarean sections should not engage in strenuous exercise for at least this amount of time.

Recently, singer Celine Dion revealed she is in no rush to shed her baby weight after having her second child. She pointed out that she has other priorities.
