Wedding Table Plans Are Like A Box Of Chocolates
Someone once said that life is like a box of chocolates. Well, when it comes to wedding table plans, it really does seem that you never do know what you're going to get. For some people a very traditional seating plan is all they need, with everyone sitting in suitable locations and with people they'll know or get on well with, with tables numbered, and a fairly clear and traditional layout.
But for many people this simply doesn't cut the mustard. In fact, for some people their mustard isn't even slightly grazed, and so for this reason many couples decide to go all out to create wedding table plans which are innovative, unique, unusual and definitely off the beaten track.
Certainly for one couple I recently came across their wedding table plan was very much like a box of chocolates - literally. As both of them were chocoholics, they decided to base their wedding plan on the concept of a box of chocolates. To begin with they named each of their tables after a favourite type of chocolate, rather than just numbering them. So there were the Chocolate clairs, the Hazelnut Swirls and the Orange Creams, plus a variety of other equally mouth-watering ideas.
Naming tables rather than numbering them is a great idea, regardless of your theme. This is because numbering tables indicates a hierarchy, intentional or otherwise, and so friends you invite will feel very much put out if they end up on table 23, even if that does happen to be right at the front.
When it comes to wedding table plans there are several aspects to consider, including the numbering or naming of tables, but there's also the overall seating chart which is displayed usually near the entrance so that people can see at a glance both which table they're on, and where that table is. In this particular couple's case they had their seating chart drawn to resemble a box of chocolates, with each table drawn as that particular type of confectionary. A little box next to each chocolate listed the 'ingredients' - in fact the names of those people on the table!
The colour theme chosen for the wedding was chocolate brown, gold and cream, and so it was fairly easy to tie the theme of chocolates in to the decorating of the tables.
One other aspect of wedding table plans that shouldn't be overlooked is the creating and placing of name cards for each guests. The rather sweet couple in question had name cards created to look like wrapped sweets, with the name printed across the front. Although their seating plan took a little extra effort, it was certainly worthwhile, as not only did the couple enjoy it, but it was certainly very much enjoyed by the guests.
This is important, because anyone can create a standard wedding table theme, using stock stationery and traditional ideas. But taking the couple as inspiration for a very personal theme demonstrates a more personal touch, more imagination and effort, and the creation of a reception theme and seating plan which will almost certainly be remembered for a good deal longer than most 'normal' seating plans.
Creating wedding table plans that are a little different isn't difficult, but it does require a little bit of imagination, and the courage to try something completely different.
