There are ways to cut costs so that you can have the flowers that you desire without breaking your budget. However, before meeting wedding florists, you will have to have the church, reception space and the colors all picked out so that you know what kind of arrangements you will need.
Wedding Flower Budgets
One of the ways that you can immediately reduce the cost of your flowers is by lowering the amount of variety of flowers you plan on including in your bouquets. The more you narrow your choices down to just one or two flowers that you really like, the least you will have to pay. Many florists offer a deal called a "growers dozen," which would be approximately 25 roses. The cost for a growers dozen might cost about $30 to $35, while wedding quality ones might cost $25 for 12 flowers. Do your research and find out what options your florists may offer.
You can also cut your flowers costs by using a local grocery store that has a florists shop inside. It will generally be about half the cost as a regular florist. A great idea to save on your decorations is to take the wedding flowers from your church, or wherever your wedding is held at, and bring them to the reception. For example instead of buying extra centerpieces for the bridal party tables, get some vases for the tables where they will be sitting, and when the bridal party arrives at the reception, have them place their flowers in the vases so that the flowers will have dual uses thus saving on the expenses.
Other ways to save is to have your flower girls wear a head wreath that includes only baby's breath, which is very sweet and beautiful while being very cost effective. Say you love orchids, but they just are not in your budget because they are very expensive, you should check out inexpensive wedding flowers called alstromeria. Alstromeria is basically just a flower that looks like an orchid as they are beautiful and come with three on each stem of the flower.
Ask your florist and they can help you get the same look you are after with the expensive flowers while using cheaper flowers. At the church you can try to alternate between expensive flowers and cheaper ones on the rows of the chairs or the back of the chairs, that way you will still have an abundance of flowers without spending an abundance of money.
Picking A Florist
When selecting a florist, start by asking your friends and family in hopes that they can recommend one. However, before you meet with a potential florist, be sure you know your budget, otherwise temptation may set in and it becomes very easy to go overboard; so go in with an action plan. In addition, don't settle for the first florist you meet, as you should shop around and compare prices, selection, service and availability.
If you prefer one florist over another, but one is cheaper in price, don't hesitate to ask the florist if they will match the price. Some florists will oblige to keep your business, and if they are not willing, then maybe that's a sign that there service is below rate as well.
Research as many flowers as possible so that you can go in prepared and ready to make decisions. When doing you research on flowers you will come to find out that certain flowers have different meanings. If you are a sentimental type of person, you may want to choose your flowers based on the meanings behind them. A few flowers that have specific meanings include:
