Another popular mixture involves using household cleaning bleach. Stir a few cap fulls of the bleach into about three cups of water and let your toe nail soak in it for awhile. To get the best results, repeat this process at least once a day. After you soak the nail, make sure you wipe it dry completely.
If soaking the infected nail in homemade remedies isn't doing the trick then over the counter topical creams may be able to. The creams can be obtained without a prescription at any pharmacy or drug store. And although more expensive than their home remedy counterparts, they usually yield satisfactory results in a few days.
If they can't do the job, then prescription medicine should be used. Oral medication will be able to help your body fight off and eliminate the fungus that's taking over the toe. It works by being able to quickly get clinically proven medicine to the toe through the blood stream.
Removing the nail is the next step and should be considered only when all of the other options have failed. The procedure needs to be cleanly and carefully done with a sanitized knife or scalpel. A nurse or doctor will be able to proceed with the process if you are unwilling or unable to do it yourself. And although it is a drastic measure, removing the nail in most cases prevents the fungus from spreading further.

Repeated cases of toenail fungi that are also showing signs of drug resistance could be signs of a more serious complication.
