Ways To Scale Back Your Insurance Premiums

Ways To Scale Back Your Insurance Premiums

Everybody is looking for ways to cut back and as the economy places an even tighter

squeeze on people the temptation is to quit paying your insurance premiums and start putting that money in the bank instead. Cutting out your insurance is not a good idea as a matter of fact the more tough the economy the more necessary your insurance premiums are. Insurance is something that should not be seen as an expense but as a necessary protection.

There are however things you could do to help reduce your insurance premiums and medical expenses without eliminating your health insurance. One thing that you can do if you're in an employer based health insurance plan is to complete the HRA. This is something that most companies are doing and is a way to help decrease the amount of your insurance premiums. A discount is offered to those who complete an HRA and this is something that can help you save money.

Another way to save some money is to find out what your plan covers and use these benefits to your advantage. For example a change of provider in many cases will be able to help you save a lot off your health care expenses and since a lot of health insurance companies are starting to reward regular check ups, oftentimes these check ups will be free or will afford you a discount down the road so this is a major thing to look at as well.

If you dont go to the doctor very often then you may want to opt for an insurance plan with a higher deductible as this will provide you with some relief from insurance premiums throughout the year but if you have a serious medical condition this is probably not the way to go. Typically employer based health insurance plans are the most comprehensive and also offer you a lower rate then you would get from a private pay plan. Although, this isn't always the case chances are you will not be able to leave your employer based health plan and find a private pay plan that will save you money.

As a last resort there are temporary, short term, and catastrophic health insurance plans that could help you get some insurance coverage. They are purely a Band-Aid though and should only be used as a last resort. While they might provide you with some peace of mind they are not going to cover all of your health insurance needs.
