What's a promise ring?

A promise ring is a ring given to either a man or a woman that symbolizes a promise of some sort. When you are looking to buy a promise ring, it's important to get a ring that your significant other will love and cherish.

Steps for buying a promise ring.

Decide what promise you are making before you begin to shop for the promise ring. The promise you are making with the ring will be the basis on the style of ring you will purchase. Although promise rings primarily act as a pre-engagement ring, promise rings can also symbolize promises ranging from chastity to friendship.

Find out what size of ring the recipient of the promise ring wears. You can do this by asking friends and family or finding some casual way to ask his or her ring size.

Look for a ring that you are sure the recipient will love. Choose a style that is similar to other jewelry that he or she owns. Promise rings come in all different types of styles, from simple bands to ornate settings for gems and diamonds. Choose a silver, gold or platinum ring based on the kind of jewelry normally worn. Promise rings can be bought in any of these materials, a silver tiffany ring is not a bad choise. Doesn't the Tiffany & Co 1837 Lock Ring mean lock her/his heart, the Tiffany & Co Open Heart Ring mean open your heart to her/him?

Purchase the promise ring at a local jewelry store, local department store or online.

Engrave the ring, if it is wide enough, with your initials and the initials of the recipient. Another option is a short phrase that sums up the promise you are making to the other person.

Present the ring to your loved one while clearly explaining what the ring stands for and the promise you are making by presenting it. And remember a tiffany ring is your first choise.
