Varicose Vein: Your Treatment Options Explained

Varicose Vein: Your Treatment Options Explained

Varicose veins are an unsightly and often painful form of physical ailment. The blood vessels of the human may often become constricted or injured due to pressure and stress related issues. In some instances these vessels develop weaknesses in the lining of their walls and the connective components that prevent back flow of blood when it is being moved through the body steadily. This damage or improper closure leads to blood pooling up, forcing the veins to become much more visible. In some instances they may even bulge from the body.

The various symptoms of varicose veins vary depending upon where they are located. Most veins afflicted with this issue are found in the legs, due to the force of gravity acting upon them strongly. However, any location can develop this issue. Varicose veins become highly visible, may be painful, often cause tenderness in the area, and may itch. Loss of sensation and other issues may occur as well. Generally, varicose veins differ from spider veins in that a varicose vein may be more likely to bulge from the flesh, whereas spider veins cause skin discoloration in a larger area of the body via a pattern reminiscent of a spider's web.

Treating varicose veins can involve many different options. In minor cases the doctor might prescribe support hose that provide pressure that helps ease the affliction. In more drastic scenarios various types of surgery may be necessary. Varicose vein removal with a laser, the closure procedure, and other forms of surgery are popular. However, among these options the closure procedure is often the most beneficial and leaves the least physical pain after the procedure is performed.

The closure procedure involves inserting a disposable catheter into the afflicted vein. Following this the catheter will be used to transmit RF based heat into the collagen within the walls of the vein. The removal of the catheter after this process will cause the heated collagen to seal the veins of the wall, shutting off blood flow in the area. Blood will naturally flow through neighbouring veins instead.

This procedure is noted as having the least post-operating pain and bruising among the many treatment types available. There is no need for a general anaesthetic and the entire process can be performed at a local doctor's office for a reasonable price.

No matter which option is chosen, the end result is a healthier body without unsightly veins. While varicose veins are rarely immediately life threatening they can cause health issues that lead to deeper physiological problems. Heavy bleeding if that particular vein is punctured is one of many possible issues that a varicose vein may offer the individual. Due to these factors it is best to have them treated whenever possible.
