V Festival 2010 Hylands Park
V was the first UK festival to operate over two days and swap line-ups overnight
. Since 96, some of the worlds greatest performers have graced the stages including Radiohead, Morrissey, The Strokes, Coldplay, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blur, Faithless, Razorlight and KylieV It began from an idea shared by Jarvis Cocker who mentioned that he wanted to play two outdoor gigs in two days - the right folk got together and hey presto V was born. Beginning in 1996 V was the first festival to operate a two site option and the first year had a Warrington leg before moving to Temple Newsam in Leeds for the next two years - in 1999 Weston Park became the new home for the V festival in the North where it has since remained and firmly established itself as a festival to be reckoned with.
Many of the world's best bands have played the V festival over the years and the event has brought with it some tremendous and eclectic line ups ranging from pure pop to rock and alternative - V has now become firmly established on the festival circuit and has a well deserved following.
Sponsored by Virgin some have complained that it's a highly commercialised festival but don't let that put you off - V festival is still a great fun festival and it always attracts a cutting edge line up ...
The Weston Park leg tends to be more 'real' for our taste attracting less of the celeb set - but it's horses for courses - if you prefer celeb city and enjoy the chance to bump into someone famous then Chelmsford is the one for you - and maybe that's one of V festivals greatest strengths - although they have the same line up both festivals have a very different feel so you have a choice for which one suits you best. Whichever one you do choose we think you'll have a great time at V.
