Using Aspirin To Reduce Your Risk Of Cancer
Recent long term studies have shown that a small daily dose of Aspirin can significantly reduce your risk of getting, and dying from, a range of common cancers.
Whilst Aspirin has been known for years for its beneficial effects regarding the prevention of heart attacks and strokes, it has only recently come to light about its potential to save many people from cancer, and thereby saving many lives every single year.
The overall rate at which Aspirin has been shown to prevent death from any form of cancer is around 20% over a 20 year period, studies have shown the effects to be much greater against certain forms of cancer, with other forms showing no significant prevention benefit when taking Aspirin.
Those cancers that show a significant rate of prevention are bowel cancer which is reduced by 40%, 30% for lung cancer, 10% for prostate cancer and 60% for oesophageal cancer.
There is of course a trade off, and that is an increased risk of some form of internal bleeding due to thinning of the blood, though the benefits of Aspirin are considered to far outweigh the small increased risks involved.
The recommended daily dose is around 75mg per day, and the typically age at which it is recommended to begin taking Aspirin as a preventative is around 45 to 50 years of age, and continuing for around 20 to 25 years. Studies have shown the risks from Aspirin begin to greatly increase after 75 years of age, and so in most cases it is recommended to stop your regular course of Aspirin sometime before you reach 75.
The benefits of Aspirin in cancer prevention, and heart attack and stroke prevention make it almost a natural choice to begin taking it on a regular basis, but of course, anyone considering taking a regular dose of Aspirin should consult their doctor before doing so as taking any medication should be taken extremely seriously.
