Uk Could Become Hotspot For Romantic Beach Weddings
Couples planning romantic weddings on the beach might soon have another destination
to add to their list of favourites as the council of Cleethorpes in the United Kingdom considers applying for a licence that will allow weddings and civil partnerships to be performed on their Blue Flag beaches.While exotic destination such as the Caribbean, Maldives, Seychelles and Hawaii prove to be popular locations for destination weddings, Cleethorpes in North East Lincolnshire boasts award-winning beaches and several hotels and attractions.
Though Cleethorpes ocean waters might not be as turquoise or crystal clear as the ones in the sparkling Caribbean Sea, couples will still be able to feel the sand between their toes as they exchange vows and the sun might even make an appearance for the occasion!
Councillor Mick Burnett from North East Lincolnshire Council, said: Getting married on the beach is a lovely concept and many couples may see Englands beaches as a superb alternative to getting married abroad.
Melanie Wood, the Director of Pleasure Island, a theme park near Cleethorpes, said: Cleethorpes has the whole package; its a really attractive destination.
Its a very novel and a very quirky idea. We might as well go for it. After all, we have a stretch of beautiful Blue Flag beach, wonderful hotels, wonderful bed and breakfasts and great attractions.
Cleethorpes council is following in the footsteps of Bournemouth after the resort on the south coast of England recently hosted the first legally-binding wedding ceremony on a British beach.
In order to offer legal beach weddings for engaged couples, Bournemouth Borough Council had to build a 16ft by 8ft white timber beach hut, or chapel, on the beach, because the UK law requires all weddings to be held in a permanent covered building.
Im delighted to see this exciting project come to fruition, commented Councillor Rod Cooper, from Bournemouth Council. I cant think of anywhere better to say I do than on the sands.
Councillor Burnett said: We will be talking to Bournemouth Council to understand their experience and considering fully the local implications, before deciding whether offering such a service would be appropriate to Cleethorpes.
UK couples might be persuaded to ditch their plans for destination weddings after finding out how much they can save by booking a beach wedding at home. Luxury Caribbean weddings start from 5,000, but nuptials on a Bournemouth beach start from just 999.
However, with Caribbean weddings you get the wedding and honeymoon all in one (with many Caribbean hotels offering free wedding packages if couples stay a minimum of nights) so in the end they might still work out to be more cost-effective that a wedding in a UK beach.
According to research carried out last year, one in four couples from the UK are choosing weddings abroad, with South Africa and St Lucia making the top of the list of romantic wedding destinations.
However, if more beaches in the UK acquire wedding licences, more brides and grooms-to-be could be persuaded to enjoy their nuptials on home sands, and where better to enjoy an oceanfront wedding than at Cleethorpes?
Ms Wood added: They can get married on the beach, say their vows and then take a ride on a double loop rollercoaster afterwards.
We already have the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway to get the bride and groom to the beach. Sometimes with weddings, people like quirky and the more the better.
