UFC betting players will be doing the same thing on Saturday in Sydney, when former champion B.J. Penn will be a dangerous underdog against Jon Fitch in the main event of UFC 127.

Penn (24-7-1, seven KOs), also known as "The Prodigy", has held both the lightweight and welterweight belts in the UFC, and he is attempting another run at the welterweight title after losing twice to current lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. Penn made a victorious return to the 170-pound division with a 21-second knockout of fellow former champion Matt Hughes at UFC 123, and we were reminded that, when motivated, the 32-year-old Penn is as good as anyone in the world. Of course, many point to the idea that Hughes may be over the hill, but Penn destroyed him and he can't be overlooked by his opponent. If he's in shape at 170 pounds, Penn is a monster.
Fitch (23-3-0-1, 13 decisions) is making his way back up the welterweight ladder with five straight wins since losing to champion Georges St. Pierre at UFC 87, but Fitch's style isn't really conducive to an entertaining fight. His last seven fights have gone to a decision, but Fitch couldn't care less as long as he keeps winning. He is one of the top wrestlers in the UFC, and his ground-and-pound game can be vicious, but sooner or later Fitch is going to have to finish a fight to improve his standing in the eyes of MMA fans and more importantly, president Dana White.
Hopefully, this fight will be worth the price per head for ticket-paying customers and PPV buyers, and they'll see Fitch as a UFC Odds
-200 UFC betting favorite, while Penn is rated at UFC Odds +160. Fitch has likely looked at tape of Penn's two losses to GSP, in which the champion controlled Penn with his wrestling. Penn has the advantage if the fight stays standing up, but hopefully, he's worked on his takedown defense because Fitch is going to be looking for the takedown at every opportunity. Penn has heard the doubters saying that he not only beat a past-his-prime Hughes, but that Penn is over the hill himself, and that should have motivated him to have a good training camp. Penn has all the natural talent in the world, but when he asserts himself, he is a different animal.
