Hyperion software was founded in 1981 by Marco Arese and Bob Thomas
. It was called IMRS at that time. In 1983 IMRS came up with a financial and management consolidation software called Micro Control. In 1991 windows version of Micro control was launched called Hyperion. In 1995 IMRS changes its name to Hyperion Software Corporation. In 1998 it merged with Arbor and was renamed Hyperion Solutions Corporation.Hyperion Solutions Corporation continued to grow till it was taken over by Oracle Corporation on 1st of March 2007 for 3.3 Billion Dollars. The growth story of Hyperion will not be complete with mentioning about Jim Perakis. Jim Perakis joined IMRS in 1985 and was instrumental in transforming it from a one million dollar company to almost three hundred million dollar Hyperion Solutions Corporation.
Today Hyperion Solutions Corporation has been closed down, but the products it developed are bundled with other products of Oracle. The brand name Hyperion continues to flourish under the patronage of Oracle Corporation.
