Twitter For Business: Finding Local People

There are many articles on line that tell how to use Twitter for business

. This article is a little different as I am going to give you some suggestions to do the same. But, the biggest problem of using Twitter is trying to figure out how to target your local people. So we will discuss that along with some ideas you can implement for your business.

Of all the tools I have seen on the web, the best experience I have had with trying to target local followers is through a site named www.twellow.com/twellowhood. This is a powerful site, so I will explain a little of how it works.

Once you go to the twellowhood site, you will see a map of the world. To find your local Twitter people, just click on the map. I live in Michigan. So, I would click on the United States map to bring up the states, and then click on Michigan.

When you do that, a box will appear in the upper right corner of the site. This is a live listing of people who are on Twitter right now. This listing is by the city. Simply find your city and click on it. It brings up the users that are on line. If you want to target those local people, start following them!

This tool can be very effective if you have a local store, or even if you have a product you are marketing online.

USING TWITTER FOR LOCAL BUSINESS

If you have a store of any type, you have an opportunity to get the word out about your products. You also have the capability of tweeting specials, regular low prices, good service, etc. You can increase peoples interest by tweeting a special sale code so a customer can get a discount, or even something free to help draw people into your business. Do you have new store hours? Are you staying open later? Do you have new products or services to offer? The ideas that you can put forward on your Twitter campaign are only limited by your imagination!

USING TWITTER FOR AN ONLINE BUSINESS

If you have an online business, targeting local followers can work for you also! There are many self help programs, health and wellness programs that people are marketing on the web. If you are doing online promotions on the internet, you sure can do this by targeting your local people also! The beauty of this is that there may be people locally who already are using the product you are selling. But if you make a connection with them so they can get the same product locally rather than to get it online, you have a steady customer who will be providing you with repeat sales. It doesnt get any better than that!

MANAGING YOUR TWEETS

Just as you would with trying to promote a business online, you will want to mix up your tweets. Mention your product or sales, but re-phrase it differently every time. Tweet sayings, notations about todays weather, or even how busy your store is at the moment. You can also say things like:

I only have 23 of this product left, and they are going quickly. Make sure to stop by our store and get yours before we are out!

Mix up your tweets so you have a variety, and there is something else there to capture the attention of your market. I would suggest using Tweetdeck to do this with. Be sure to schedule your tweets during your open hours.

So dont be afraid to try marketing to your local Twitter followers. Be innovative, use a little imagination and you may be surprised by the results!
