Treatment For The Condition Known As Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is a term given to a condition where abnormal quantities of sweat are present

. The most common body parts which suffer from this include the underarms, hands and feet. Sweating is a normal body process that allows you to stay cool. However, for some people, the sweat glands tend to be more active even when the body is at rest in a cool environment. An effective hyperhidrosis treatment is needed to stop the social embarrassment and inconvenience the condition causes.

There are different approaches to dealing with this condition. If you're suffering from it, here are the most commonly used options which are available to clear up or dramatically reduce this problem.

Antiperspirants are available OTC at drugstores and groceries. They work by temporarily reducing the activity of the sweat glands. Because they do not require a doctor's prescription, they come in lighter concentrations. Some people think that deodorants do the same thing. But as the name suggests, deodorants can only mask the odor and not get rid of the problem. There are some fairly strong antiperspirants available OTC and these do work for some of the less severe cases.

Examples of some of these are Gillette, Maxim and Secret Clinical Strength Antiperspirant.

Much stronger antiperspirants containing aluminum chloride hexahydrate may be prescribed by a doctor. This provides an effect that lasts for a few weeks. It's in liquid form, applied before bedtime to allow the ingredient to work effectively. It's then washed off the next day. This solution is particularly suitable for use in the hands, feet, armpits and scalp.

Botox injection is a remedy performed by a doctor in the clinic. It is the very same substance that's used on the face for smoothening out lines and wrinkles. It blocks the action of the chemical transmitter that causes sweating. When used on the armpits, it can provide positive results for 3 to 6 months. But when used on the hands and feet, it's less effective and can sometimes be rather painful.

Tap water iontophoresis, or TWI, may be used on problem areas such as the hands and feet. They're immersed in a container with electrolyte solution. With the help of a Galvanic device, a mild electric current is applied. This procedure can be done in one's home. But there are some disadvantages: the device is expensive and the entire procedure can be time consuming.

There are alternative therapies and home remedies which are natural methods you could try for this condition. These are generally simple, inexpensive and often very effective. Two examples of these are "Stop Sweating and Start Living" and "Beat Your Sweating Demons". Both of these are eBook informational guides with their own approach for hyperhidrosis treatment, specifically for underarm sweating issues.

If everything above has been tried and unfortunately has failed to work for you, the ultimate hyperhidrosis treatment of choice would be surgery. Usually, it's done though approaches such as sympathectomy and local excision of the sweat glands. This offers a lifelong effect on the area treated. But the problem is the sweating issue may be diverted to other parts of your body as a form of compensation.
