Travelling to Spanish Speaking Destinations - Puerto Vallarta

If you are looking to experience the Spanish culture than there is no better way

to do that then to travel! Travelling to a location allows you to experience first-hand the nuances of a culture. One gets to immerse themselves in a new environment and soak up as much of their surroundings as possible. Hear the natives speak the language, participate in the local customs and taste the exotic foods. As the saying goes "When in Rome..."

For those in North America looking to experience the Spanish culture first hand some destinations of interest might be the countries of Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Columbia and Brazil. If you do choose to visit one or all of the countries some cities you may want to visit are Puerto Vallarta, Buenos Aires, Bogota and Caracas.

If you are not adventurous enough to explore some of the cities less travelled than a place we would recommend to visit that will allow you to get a taste of the Spanish culture while still allowing you to find plenty of "Americanized" places to stay would be Puerto Vallarta.

Puerto Vallarta is approximately 1200 miles south of Los Angeles on the west coast of Mexico. Overlooking the Pacific Ocean Puerto Vallarta has been a tourist destination for sun seekers for many years. As a result Puerto Vallarta has become very commercialized with many destination "all-inclusive" resorts. Though some travelers looking to get a real cultural experience might view this as a negative, it is actually a good thing. The big resorts allow you to avoid many of the dangers that go along with staying in some of the places that are "off the beaten path" so to speak. This will allow you to avoid things like food poisoning, dysentery and influenza. It is especially nice if it is your first time to the area by allowing you to go out and explore some of the less touristy parts of the city while still having a safe haven to retreat to at the end of the day. One of the other positives for those just looking to "get their feet wet" as far as experiencing the Spanish Culture goes, is you don't need to know Spanish. Although you will be able to pick up a few words quickly and there is plenty of opportunity to use them with locals, most everyone also speaks English. We recommend stepping out of your comfort zone and trying to speak as much Spanish as you can while you are there as you will be surprised and how much Spanish you will actually pick up in a short amount of time.

In closing I would recommend Puerto Vallarta to the person that has never travelled to a Spanish-speaking country before and is looking for a holiday in which they can still live in an American standard of living while being able to venture out and still experience a different culture. You can use Puerto Vallarta as a stepping stone to visiting other countries and cities that are less touristy so you can experience a more authentic Spanish culture. Wherever you go, whether it is Bogot or Puerto Vallarta, take precautions to keep yourself safe. Remember you are in a foreign country and despite your best attempts, probably stick out like a sore thumb. Make sure food is safe to eat, water is safe to drink and travel with a buddy. Don't carry a lot of cash on you and try not to get separated from your group. Remember you want to do as much as you can to make sure you have a positive experience and create memories of a great trip and cultural experience.

Don't forget if you are going to take the plunge and embark on a cultural journey it's a great idea to learn some common words in Spanish. Try learning Spanish vocabulary to get you started.
