Areas where backpackers and holidaymakers should avoid are the Preah Vihear temple area, Yala, Pattani, Songkhla and Narathiwat, though other places are deemed generally safe and much calmer than these danger zones. Travellers are also advised to get the adequate insurance cover before travel and stay up to date with the news while they are in the country. It's also a good idea to learn where your nearest embassy is in case of emergency.
