Traveling With Your Dog
Our dogs are a part of the family. Their unique personality, unconditional love, and daily habits are a big part of our lives. And when we plan a trip, we like to include them. The Travel Industry Association of America says that over 29 million Americans have traveled with a pet in the past three years and Trip Advisor had found that nearly half of all pet owners plan to travel with their animal within the next 12 months. All across the country, pet travel is a predominant trend in both the pet and travel worlds.
Humanization
The main catalyst driving this is the increased humanization of pets. As we begin to include our dogs in the family more and more, it becomes natural that they tag along on any sort of excursion: whether it's out camping, to a luxury hotel, or visiting with family. "For many pet parents, a trip's not enjoyable if the four-legged members of the family aren't invited," said Dr. Stephen Zawistowski, Executive Vice President of ASPCA Programs and Science Advisor. Not only do we enjoy our dog's company, but we feel that they too appreciate getting out of town to see the sights and smell the smells.
Socialization
The socialization of dogs has both helped to mobilize them, and will continue to feed the fire. Socializing has become a regular part of the modern dog's life: going to the park to play with friends, to the boutique to pick new toys, and now, to travel around experiencing everything the world has to offer. With proper socialization, their manners, confidence, and attitudes improve. Making it easier for us to include them more and convincing hotels, parks, cafes, and all sorts of local businesses to open their doors and declare themselves "Dog friendly!"

What began as simply this "dog friendly" movement is evolving into something else altogether. According to the American Pet Products Association, many hotels now include "everything from oversized pet pillows, plush doggie robes, to check-in gift packages that include a pet toy, dog treat, ID tag, bone, and turn down treat."
Safety
Safety and convenience are important concerns for travelers with pets and are driving growth in the pet industry as well. Soft and light carriers for small dogs, wheeled crates for large dogs, and even seatbelts and car seats can be helpful products for dog parents looking to have a good trip. For those international travelers, the Pet Passport Scheme allows dogs to travel from one member country to another, without quarantine or hassle.
The mental health and safety of your dog must also be looked after. Keep in mind that embarking on any adventure will be very exciting to them, even if it doesnt appear so.
