Travel Tips when Visiting India

When visiting India, there are things you need to know first about the culture, history and lifestyle of the people. Because the country has a different mindset from the West, it is important to learn about how to conduct oneself properly, respect local customs and tradition, and interact with people when visiting this beautiful place. Likewise, the traveler must know how to maximize his or her trip to India.

Here are some travel tips that can help you when visiting India:

1. It is recommended to stay at least two weeks in the country. Most of the best places in India are far from the major cities, which means you will spend some time for domestic travel. A short stay in India will not be enough for all the cultural sights and places in the country.

2. India has a different climate and environment from the western countries. Expect humid and hot weather; take time to adjust to it. Wear light, cool clothes and bring a hat or protection from the heat.

3. People in India are friendly and hospitable. Ask for directions when confused. Indians speak English and most signs are in English.

4. You will need a visa before you can enter the country. The visa can be claimed from an India Consulate in your country or you can also get it from your port of entry in India.

5. Watch you manners. Body language is important in India. The way you carry yourself and the way you treat others should always be in a respectful way. Indians are cultured people and there are some behavior or actions that are unacceptable to them.

6. Indians eat with their right hands (only). If you want to try eating with bare hands, use only the right hand. The left is only used in cleaning oneself.7. Bring bottled water with you to prevent dehydration when going around India, especially during summer.

8. Make your hotel reservations in advance, especially when staying in the big cities like Delhi or Mumbai, as the places to stay can get filled up quickly.

India is a highly-cultured country and even though you are just touring, paying respect to their beliefs and traditions is important.
