Travel Insurance For The Rugby World Cup 2011
The 2011 Rugby World Cup seems like something in the far distant future
, well it is, it does not kick off until 9th September next year. The big thing to bear in mind is that tickets and accommodation are already being booked.With venues scattered all over New Zealand it could be quite a costly exercise with transport and accommodation as well as the match tickets.
Both England and Scotland have been drawn in Group B, with Scotlands first match taking place in Invercargill, well it did have to have a Scottish name didnt it, on 10th September. The hospitality package price from Hospitality NZ 2011 for the first game is 795 New Zealand Dollars plus GST (goods and services tax, equivalent to out VAT). This is about 380 plus tax, which currently is 12.5%. To follow all the Scotland pool matches it is 3,395 NZD plus tax (approximately 1,820 in total)
Englands matches also start on 10th September in Christchurch but the total for their pool matches is 3,895 NZD plus tax (approximately 2,100 in total)
Wales kick off their matches a day later in Wellington and the total for their pool matches is also 3,895 NZD plus tax.
Finally Ireland kick off in New Plymouth on 11th September with their pool prices being 4,495 NZD plus tax (just over 2,400 in total)
If you want to see it all prepare to be away for a long time, the group matches dont finish until 2nd October, with the final taking place on 23rd October, that is six weeks in all.
Add to all this the cost of getting to New Zealand and it will be a fair tidy sum, even to just watch the pool matches.
One area you need to look at carefully is your travel insurance. For the group matches you will need to buy travel insurance to cover you for four weeks, most importantly, make sure that the cancellation cover is enough to cover the cost of travel and all the match costs, it could quite easily exceed the standard cancellation cover limit on some policies. Dont look on the comparison sites for the cheapest thing you can find, it probably will not give you the cover you need and be careful if you are thinking of buying an annual multi-trip travel insurance policy, your trip may exceed the period of cover on the policy as many are limited in duration per trip.
Overall it is probably a good time to start planning the trip, before the best seats go and you end up paying over the odds for poor seats. Get your flights booked early, whilst there are still bargains to be had and, once you have laid out some money make sure you buy travel insurance with cancellation cover that starts straight away.
