Many of you may have heard about Double-Decker train to Jaipur flagged-off from New Delhi (Sarai Rohilla) last month. The second double-decker air conditioned train in India (the first one was introduced between Howrah-Dhanbad in 2011), it seems a great initiate to put passengers on ease. The project was in the waiting for last two years, but when it was pulled on to the stage effect of it bedazzled everyone.

This double-storey train has 12 air-conditioned compartments with capacity of 120 passengers in each. It has two floors within total height of 4.36m, which is just a bit taller than an ordinary train. 48 seats are arranged on the lower deck, while the upper one contains 50 seats. The rest 22 are fixed at the normal height. It takes four and half hours to complete the journey, and the fare has been fixed as Rs 327, which seems nothing less than perfect.

Talking more about the train, it was designed and manufactured at Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala. Coaches are made of stainless steel, and equipped with special air spring for comfy ride. And what I find the best feature is that the coaches will not pile up in an accident. Cost to complete one coach of this train is around Rs 3 crores, which is more than even of a Rajdhani coach (2.5 crores). The train can run at speed of 160kmph. Mineral water and fast foods are offered inside the train, of course at price.
