Traffic has become the biggest buzzword of the internet and of internet marketing. It is such an obvious thing. Of course, you want traffic! Nobody would start a blog or put up a website unless they wanted people to come to it. But the constant focus on the word "traffic" can almost distance you from what your goals for the website. You don't have a website for traffic. You have a website because you have something to share with other people, and the internet is a great and inexpensive way to do it.
Remembering that traffic means real people coming to your website will keep you focused on creating a website that delivers what you want in a way that you want, to people.
With this perspective, it becomes easy to understand why article marketing is important. It is a way of sharing what you know, and when done well, entices the reader to come to your site to see what else you have to say. If you never lose sight of this, your articles will become more effective.
And if you never lose sight of this, you will even want to write more articles!
With that in mind, you do want to maximize your efforts. So how do you make the most of every article that you write?
There is a lot written that the way to do this is to first pick a keyword and then write an article around that keyword to be able to be found by the search engine, i.e. search engine optimization. But you could, instead, first write an article based on your message of your website and the concept represented by the keyword. After you write the article based on the concept, and share what it is you want, then edit it to put in the keywords where appropriate. Start with the concept first, then optimize for keywords. This keeps the focus on the reader, your customer, and your message.
After the article is written, and checked for grammar and spelling, submit it an article directory such as ezinearticles or goarticles. Make sure that the resource box includes a description of and a link to your website or blog.
Once the article is accepted, copy and paste its address (its url) and submit it to the bookmarking sites and to ping.fm.
And then also broadcast this link to your own contacts through email, twitter, facebook, and any other social media where you belong. Don't be shy about asking your contacts to forward it to their contacts!
As well as sharing information, each of these activities gives you a backlink since it has the link to your site. And this "bunch" of backlinks happens with each article that you write, so you can see how the backlinks, and thus your pagerank, grows over time.
Your traffic comes directly from your articles and indirectly from the search engine ranking that you achieve through your backlinks.
