Trade Secrets for Finding a Good Builder

Trade Secrets for Finding a Good Builder

I have been involved in the building trade ever since I left my Comprehensive Secondary

Modern School at age 16, and enrolled as an apprentice with a gentleman named Angus McGregor. He had about as much patience as I had common sense. He was forever going at me about the way I left my tools, and how important it was for a good tradesperson to leave the customer's home and garden as close as possible to the way that they had found them. The one thing that Angus McGregor did succeed in getting into my head was the importance of understanding what a customer wants, and describing that fairly in a contract.

I must have learned these lessons well, because by the time that I was thirty years of age I already had my own van and apprentice, and was the rated builder for all my customers and friends. Those days life was a struggle times were hard and cowboy builders filled the streets. If I wanted to get a job, I had to bid low and bite the bullet on any unforeseen extras. I used to hang my business card on every shop counter that I could find, but every time I did, somebody just substituted their own.

The internet has made it a lot simpler to find a good builder these days. The site that I like to recommend is mr-skill.co.uk. It is fair to both parties because good tradesmen get good exposure, while customers get fair prices in a highly competitive environment. They have recommended builders listed for just about every postcode, so you should get good advice whether you live in London or Snowdonia.

The website is also a pleasure to use and visit. Everything is set out clearly with big buttons up top that are easy to find and understand. Builders list their services and bid for jobs on offer there. Customers can search for builders by their own postcode, or post jobs there and receive competitive bids. Life would have been much easier if Mr-Skill had been around when I was starting up only thing is, I would have run a mile if anybody had mentioned a computer to me in those days

Jokes aside now, I really recommend that you use that website when searching for a rated builder. I use it myself when I have several jobs on hand and needed a few good tradespeople to assist me. I can honestly say that the quality of the men and women that I have hired through Mr-Skill has been outstanding, and that I have no regrets as I continue to use the website still.
