Though most trips last for only a few days to a few weeks, there are some who go go on for almost three months on the round.
Naturally, if you plan to go on this trip, you need to have a bike with you. Here, you have the option of having your own bike for the journey. Also, there are many bike rental companies that allow you to take their bikes on the trip and drop it off at any of their branches at your stopover points. Any bike can actually be used for touring, however, since this is Australia you will be exploring, it would be better if you get yourself one of those off road types, as they will be more suited in handling the outback's rough terrain.
It would also be a good idea carry a small set of tools and a few spare parts, as you will be most likely be doing repairs while on the road. Also, be sure to check your bike whenever you arrive at a stopover point to see its condition. There are actually a lot of bike shops along the stops in the Australian bike trails where you can easily get replacement for the larger parts like tires and brakes.
And of course, your trip will be pretty much useless if you yourself break down while on the road. So be sure to carry enough supplies with you. Food and water are the two most important ones that you need to have a lot of. For an added energy boost while on the road, it would be a good idea to carry a few packs of sweets, like chocolates. A small first aid kit will also be handy while on the road. Lastly, plan out your trip well so that you will maximize your time on the road.
