Mathura and Vrindavan are the two towns located at a distance of 15 km away from one another and are famous for the temples dedicated to Lord Krishna. These towns are located in the state of Uttar Pradesh in North India.

Mathura is the birth place of Lord Krishna and is considered as the holy place by Hindus. At the same times there are a number of legends related to Lord Krishna and the Vrindavan. There are a number of holy temple in the tows of Mathura and Vrindavan, which attract a large number of devotees every year.

Temples in Mathura

Dwarakadhish Temple

The temple was built in 1814 and is dedicated to Lord Krishna. It is one of the most visited temples of Mathura. It is said that Lord Krishna took birth in Mathura some 5,000 years back. Main attractions of temple are the idols of Lord Krishna and Radha, his beloved.

Krishna Janambhoomi

It is said to be the same site where Lord Krishna took birth. There is a prison on the basement of the temple which is considered to be the birth place of Krishna. It is the famous temple in Mathura, which was destroyed by Emperor Aurangzeb to construct a mosque at the same site.

Rangji Temple

This temple has been constructed in South Indian style in 1851 and is dedicated to Lord Sri Ranganatha (form of Lord Vishnu). It is famous for the annual Rath Yatra, known by the name of Brahmotsava, which is held in the months of March and April for 10 days.

Temples in Vrindavan

Madan Mohan Temple

It is the oldest existing temple in Vrindavan and was built by Kapur Ram Das near Kali Ghat. It is related to saint Chaitanya and dedicated to Lord Madan Gopal. A large number of devotees visit this temple during their tour to Vrindavan.

Banke Bihari Temple

Built in 1864, the temple is dedicated to Banke Bihar or Lord Krishna. It is said that the image of Banke Bihari was discovered by Swami Haridas, one of the dedicated devotees of Krishna.

Radha Vallabh Temple

This temple is dedicated to Radha and Lord Krishna and it was built by Raha - Vallabh sect. It is also one of the most visited temples of Vrindavan.
