The train has been named after Buddha's final explanation of teachings, Mahaparinirvana Sutra.

Itineraries: The train takes you to the Buddhist Pilgrimage sites. The train departs from Sufdarjung railways station once or twice in a month depending on season.
The sacred journey begins from Delhi, moving towards Gaya, Rajgir and Nalanda, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, a day trip to Lumbini in Nepal, Gonda and last but not least Taj Mahal in Agra. While you are on Buddhist tour, you will see two popular Buddha Monuments namely, Sanchi Stupa and Amravati Stupa, these are the largest monuments in the country. Both the stupas tell you a lot about the history of Lord Buddha.
Facilities- The train is operated by the Indian Railways having carriages and amenities like as on Rajdhani Express. It provides all luxury facilities as offered by any of the Luxury Trains in India. Pilgrims are welcomed with a garland and are given a book on Buddhist. Moreover, security guards are present in the trains and the tours are guided by well guides.
Journey Duration- The sacred Buddhist tour with the new Mahaparinirvan Express is of 7 nights and eight days. In these seven days, you can explore all the places related to Buddha, all from Birth to death, along with other excursions in Delhi and Agra tour.
Tariff- The train has been divided in three different classes, first class, two tiers, and three tiers. The cost has been assigned per person per night. $150 per person per night for first class fully air-conditioned travel. Two tiered class costs $125 per person, per night and $95 for three tired. Moreover, the tariff includes train journey, food, road transfers by air-conditioned vehicle, sightseeing, darshan to visit holy places, hotel stay in air-conditioned rooms, and entrance fees.
