Sure, boxes of candy or chocolates will delight them but the effect will be short lived. Toys and games are better choice and they do not have to cost the earth either. Creating goody bags for your junior guests is a great way of giving them something tasty to eat, something interesting to occupy them and maybe a little keepsake of your day.
However, before you head out shopping there are some things you will need to think about first.
The ages of your younger guests. Toddlers will have different needs compared to older children of say 8 or 9. You also need to ensure you buy age appropriate toys for instance many small toys are not appropriate for children under the age of 3 due to small parts and a choking hazard.
Foodstuffs and allergies. Ask parents before you shop for edibles about any allergies such as nuts or lactose. Also some parents may not want their children eating hard candies or lots of chocolates and it is always worth asking if their children have a preference.
Liquid stuffs. If you are thinking about including bubbles check that they are non-toxic and do not contain anything that may stain or cause irritation. The same goes for crayons, pencils or pens.
Think about packaging. Children being children are likely to want to take everything home as well as many things they have collected throughout the day! Mini gable end boxes are a great choice here and have plenty of room for all those wedding favors and goodies!
Consider siblings. Brothers and sisters always want what the other has so if it is feasible give them both the same items.
Gender. It sounds obvious but do choose toys and games with gender in mind! Little girls love pink and flowers, whilst boys like red or blue and cars!
Label your wedding favors. If you have created favors that are all different and meant for a particular child be sure to label them so you know whose is whose!
Have some spares. Always buy a few more than you need in case someone lose theirs or it gets broken. Having some additional toys, candies and packaging as backup can prevent tears and tantrums!
