Toby Keith continues to support last year's American Ride with more tour dates through the summer
. The country superstar kicked off 2010 with the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, returning to the road by the middle of March for an appearance at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. While he might seem like a rough and tough character with his songs "I Love this Bar" and "I'm Just Talkin' about Tonight," Keith still appreciations every little bit of success that comes his way. "Any award given to me by songwriters is the ultimate. That's the apex of awards," he said to LiveDaily.com last year. "I'm completely at a loss for words to tell you how big it is to me." The set featured the kind of success that Keith saw during his breakthrough, with 2001's "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)." The title track was a number one hit, rising fast up the charts much like its single, showcasing Keith's timeless ability to keep things truly country.
Keith had been in the business for years before 2001's mainstream crossover hit was part of his repertoire. Born in Clinton, Okla., Keith was influenced by his parents' albums of Bob Wills and Merle Haggard. Though he was always interested in music, starting the Easy Money Band following high school, he was more interested in working full time. But when the oil industry took a hit, Keith started focusing more on music, cutting indie country records with an Alabama theme. Soon enough his demo got him signed with Mercury records and he released his full length debut with the chart topper "Should've Been a Cowboy."
That rest of the debut's singles all made the Top Five and helped push his next few albums to the top of the charts. Though he wasn't quite a household name, Keith's success spread across all genres (even allowing him to collaborate with Sting) that got him to the 21st century. The 2001 single helped spurn crossover success and enable Keith to see unparalleled success.
