Born on the 20th of November 1750, Tipu Sultan became the ruler of Mysore in 1782. This Islamic ruler died at the age of 48 and was often questioned of his right to rule the Kingdom of Mysore at it was dominated by locals who strongly believed in the teachings of Hinduism. A lover of the arts, Tipu Sultan was an accomplished soldier, poet and scholar who at the request of the French ordered the construction of the first church to be built in the kingdom despite his devotion to Islam.
