Tips On Buying Baby Clothes

Buying perfect baby clothes for your newborn is quiet a daunting task. You would always want to ensure that your little one looks adorable at the baby shower. With showers for the new born nowadays turning out to be trendier, the demand for special newborn clothes is one the rise. The latest trend in baby showers is a 'sip-and-see' party. In such parties, you throw a post-birth party with champagne for your friends to drop in and see your baby. In a recent poll of The Bump members, 64 per cent said that they would choose a sip-and-see party over traditional baby showers. Besides clothes for special events like these, you will need everyday outfits for your baby. Here are some tips on buying baby clothes:

Babies grow very fast in the first year, so you may want to buy oversize clothes, which he or she can grow into. Just make sure the baby clothes are comfortable.

Sometimes the sizes which are printed on the cloth tags do not correspond to his or her age, so you may find it difficult to choose appropriate clothing items. For instance, if your baby is nine pounds at birth, you may want to buy clothes for three to six month olds straight away.

You should have a layette, or a collection of baby clothes ready which should ideally include these - six undershirts and infant bodysuits, non-flammable rompers with covered feet and two gowns. Infant sleepwear should not be oversized either or it may be a safety hazard.

Also buy a minimum of four pairs of booties and socks, two sweaters, and a light jacket for your baby. A zipper or button-up sweater would be better than one which needs to be pulled over babies' heads, because babies dislike that!

You will need pants and tops, a couple of hats or bonnets which are knitted for winter, and brimmed for summer. Other items required for infants are snowsuits for colder climates, and absorbent bibs.

These baby clothes should last you for at least a few weeks. Your next purchases will depend on your infant's growth spurts and your budget. You can save money by buying clothes meant for nine to twelve month olds on sale, even when you child is three months old.
