Time To Get Out Your Summer Checklist
Well, it's now the middle of May, and all across the country
, the perfect weather is rolling in. Swimming, surfing, and sand volleyball are all in the forecast! So if you are ready to hit the beach or just dive in to a local pool party, it's time to address your summer checklist.If you have a pool in your backyard, make sure that it's ready for you to take your first dip of the season. For some, this might just involve a thorough cleaning, but for others, it will require "shocking" your pool system, which means dumping in a high volume of chemicals.
This should be a familiar process if you have had your pool for awhile, but if this is a recent acquisition--if you moved into the house during the winter, for example--then you might want to visit your local pool supply store and ask some questions.
If you have children, make sure they are going to be safe around water. Check all locks and gates that guard the way to the pool. Get them into swimming lessons and make sure there are always flotation devices close by.
Get your eyes ready for the sunshine. If you don't have a pair of sunglasses that will protect against both UVA and UVB rays, then it is time to visit your local department store. But if your eyes have special needs, you will want to make an appointment with your optometrist to get yourself some prescription sunglasses.
Because it is the sunniest time of year, many offices will offer special discounts, so make sure to check with your eye specialist to find out about any such promotions.
Everyone knows that "laying out" might give you a fashionable tan, but it could also cost you your life. The risk of getting skin cancer may not seem high from one or two slight burns or from regular exposure to the sun's rays when you typically don't burn, but melanoma is not something to gamble with.
Instead, visit a tanning salon before you expose your bod on the beach or use a self-tanner. There are many products on the market that nourish your skin while also gradually tinting it to give you a summer glow.
Many of us spend much of our time in sandals during the warm months. However, you should make sure that your shoes still have substantial support for your arches, which in turn reduces soreness in your knees and lower back.
These are just a few things that you need to get in order before you start really enjoying this warm weather. But once these things are in order, you can feel a little more confident poolside or at the beach!
